Did you know? Maine law requires drivers to stop for a school bus with red lights flashing and stop arm extended. Taking a few extra moments to stop helps protect students as they board and exit the bus. Let's all do our part to keep children safe. #BusSafetyWeek #SafetyFirst

Slow down in school zones! Reduced speed limits help protect students walking, biking, and getting on and off buses. A few extra seconds can save a life. Stay alert, obey posted speeds, and help keep Bangor students safe. #BusSafetyWeek #WeAreBangor

School bus safety doesn't end when the bus stops. Students may need to cross the street and can be difficult to see, especially in the early morning or late afternoon. Slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully whenever you're near a school bus. #BusSafetyWeek #WeAreBangor

Students can help make their ride safer by arriving at the bus stop early, staying out of the roadway, and waiting calmly for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching. Safe habits at the bus stop help everyone start the day right. #BusSafetyWeek #WeAreBangor

Leading up to Bus Safety Week, students across the Bangor School Department have been participating in bus safety drills to help ensure they know how to stay safe while riding the bus each day.

These important exercises give students the opportunity to practice safe boarding and exiting procedures, emergency evacuation protocols, and proper behavior while on the bus. The Cyr Bus team works hard to make student safety a top priority, and these drills help reinforce the skills and confidence students need in the event of an emergency.

Happy Custodian Appreciation Day!

Today, we celebrate the incredible custodians who do so much more than keep our schools clean, safe, and welcoming.

Our custodial staff are often among the first to arrive and the last to leave, but their impact reaches far beyond maintaining our buildings. They build relationships with students, lend a helping hand when needed, and bring joy to our school communities in countless ways. Whether they're joining in on spirit weeks, participating in theme days, or stepping into a mascot costume to make students smile, they help create the positive and caring school culture that makes Bangor schools special.

Thank you for the pride you take in your work, your dedication to our students and staff, and the kindness you bring to our schools every day. Your contributions make a difference in ways both seen and unseen.

Please join us in thanking our amazing custodial team for all they do!

We appreciate you today and every day.

The new Fruit Street mural is a colorful and whimsical celebration of nature, pollinators, and the fruit trees that help our ecosystem thrive.

This project was truly a community effort. Each Fruit Street student learned about the important role pollinators play and created the artwork that inspired the mural's design. Over the past week, students rolled up their sleeves and helped paint the mural alongside Bangor High School art students, teachers, and volunteers.

A special thank you to Bangor Beautiful and Maine artist Peter Walls, who brought all of the student-created elements together into one beautiful final design. This weekend, Peter, his son, Bangor Beautiful volunteers, and Principal Fournier completed the installation, giving the school a lasting piece of art that reflects creativity, learning, and community pride.

Be sure to stop by and admire this vibrant new addition to Fruit Street!
